So this is the place where I am supposed to show you who I am. Awkward, right? A bit intimidating as well.
Who am I is a pretty loaded question, so I’ll just start with the basics…
I’m Amy Bellows, the voice behind the name Continued Optimism. You can read a little background of how this name came to be here – Why Continued Optimism?
I was born and raised in the Midwest where I still live today with my husband, 2 lovely children and 1 darling step-daughter. We also have a cat who’s proper name is Buddy but who has since become known as Bob. This is due to the fact that our youngest is obsessed with him (the feeling is not mutual) and she has decided that Bob is a more appropriate name. Or it could be the fact that at this point she calls everything Bob.
At home our life is busy, sometimes chaotic, but always fulfilling. Between shuffling the kids around and trying to entice our youngest to sleep, we are tackling home improvement projects and attempting DIY tasks. We’ve learned a lot in our years together and we are continuing to learn more every day.
My typical, outside of the home day includes the cubical life at a large corporation. I manage teams and large scale projects which I have been doing for over 10 years.
Ah, so my background and education must be in some sort of management?
I have a Ph.D. in Psychology which is my true passion. The bulk of my research and interest lies in parent-child relationships and education. I believe that strong parent-child relationships are a fundamental necessity for us all and that instilling a passion for learning is the key to educating our children.
While my day job is in project management, I have had the pleasure of working with various groups in part-time and volunteer positions. These have included leading adolescent group therapy sessions, working with victims of sexual assault, helping woman inmates adjust to post-prison life, conducting parenting education classes and assisting with drug and alcohol dependency treatment plans.
Outside of my current career and title, I am a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and I spent my active duty years as an intelligence analyst overseas. It’s a time period that sometimes feels like another life, but it definitely shaped a large part of who I am.
When I’m not working in the office, I have the privilege of writing for some pretty amazing sites. I love to cover the topics of motherhood, marriage and stepfamily life.
So there I am in a nutshell. I hope this blog is able to send a little inspiration your way or at least help with the knowledge that we are all in this crazy marriage/family world together.
