We had such a perfectly sweet weekend that today came with a feeling of refreshments that has recently been eluding us (especially on Monday mornings). We somehow found a way to have a full, yet relaxing, weekend full of everything that we have been needing. Time at the spa, a girls night, playing with the kids, a visit from out of state family and a night away with my husband all came without any hustle or running from one place to the next. I don’t know how everything was fit in at a relaxing pace, but we’ve decided that we should investigate this secret phenomenon and repeat it often. Isn’t it funny how a few days can completely reset you, leaving you refreshed and again ready to conquer the world? The first night of actual sleep in 15 months may have helped…
Driving into work today, with a bit more pep in my step, I started thinking about the areas we’ve been neglecting or pushing aside. Simple acts like taking time for myself or having a weekend of only fun shouldn’t be something that happens just every once in awhile. The truth is we live very busy lives and when pressed for time, the first things to go are fun outings, visiting friends and date nights. It’s peculiar actually because during our busiest weeks/months we need those escapes more than ever, yet we let them slip aside. These types of moments, like the ones we cherished this past weekend, is our life. They are the sweet times we will remember and what keeps us going through long work days and crazy to-do lists. They deserve to be front and center more often.
I know that we have to find a way to better balance the must-do items with the things we love. I’m declaring March as the month to re-organize and re-prioritize. A bit of a spring cleaning for our schedule. We’ve decided date nights are the top priority and already blocked off time in our family calendar for nights away, but there are other areas that we need to carve out more time for as well. There is nothing quite like a sunny almost-spring day to get you excited for the more relaxed schedule that comes with summer!
